Industry
The presence of industrial sites on a territory is a factor of economic dynamism.
Within the frame of sustainable cities and environment preservation, the mix of potentially noisy activities and areas where acoustic quality is expected will require to take the acoustic approach into account when designing the installations.
Process industries (petrochemistry, iron and steel industry, materials, ...) are often installations open to the outside, the acoustic impact of the proccess sometimes being significant for the staff as well as for the neighbours.
For goods manufacturing processes (vehicles, drugs, microprocessors, mechanical components, food, ...), plants tend to be closed. In this case, process equipments mainly represent a risk of noise for the staff, the neighbours being more affected by the utilities allowing the process to work (ventilation, air conditioning, ...).
Such risks must be managed by engineers in charge of defining, designing and building said plants and installations, as well as by the operating industrial groups as part of their QHSE management policy.
